AAA Screening – South Manchester
Our AAA Screening Programme conducts AAA ultrasound scans in the community across Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region.
The aorta is the main blood vessel that supplies blood to your body. It runs from your heart down through your chest and abdomen. In some people, as they get older, the wall of the aorta in the abdomen can become weak. It can then start to expand and form an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). If you have an aneurysm you will not usually notice any symptoms. This means you cannot tell if you have one, will not feel any pain and will probably not notice anything different. AAA is more common in men aged 65 years or over.
We provide the AAA Screening Programme in the community. This programme helps identify AAAs at the earliest possible stage.
The NHS invites all men for screening in the year they turn 65. Men aged over 65 who have not been screened before can contact our screening service to arrange a scan.
Our AAA Screening Programme conducts AAA ultrasound scans in the community across Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region, covering the following areas:
- Bolton
- Bury
- East Cheshire
- Heywood, Rochdale & Middleton
- Manchester
- Oldham
- Salford
- Stockport
- Trafford
- Tameside and Glossop
- Wigan
AAA screening takes place 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) between 8:30am and 5pm. Occasionally, we conduct clinics at weekends or during early evenings.
Our friendly and successful screening team invite approximately 18,000 men to attend AAA screening each year. We also provide regular monitoring scans for around 1000 patients.
