Comfortable Community Scheme – Withington and Old Moat
Withington Civic Society, Southway’s Housing and Manchester Local Care Organisation have engaged with local businesses to encourage them to pledge involvement with the Comfortable Community Scheme.
The Comfortable Community Scheme aims to enable people to travel, shop, eat and socialise in Withington Village by reducing the barriers that stop them from going out and about in their community.
This scheme involves local businesses/community spaces offering use of one or all of the following: toilet facilities, use of a seat for a moment of rest, provision of a glass of tap water, baby changing facilities, a safe space to breastfeed your baby.
This scheme is available for older residents, those with young children, pregnant people and people living with hidden disabilities.
Participating venues for this scheme can be identifiable by the relevant window stickers displayed, highlighting what they have pledged to offer:
- Toilet – Welcome use of toilet facilities
- Seat – Allowing people to ‘take a seat’ where they can rest for a moment
- Cold Drink – Providing a cold glass of tap water for somebody who may be at risk of dehydration
- Baby Changing – Welcome use of facilities to babies and carers
- Breast Feeding Friendly – Provide a safe place for mums to feed their babies comfortably
